Williamsburg, Va. - In the final home game of the season for William & Mary's field hockey team, junior Ann Ekberg (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored two goals in less than ten minutes to give the 11th ranked Tribe a 3-0 shut out over 19th ranked Northeastern. With the win, William & Mary's record improves to 14-3, while Northeastern's record falls to 14-5. Both teams struggled for a goal in the first half. William & Mary took six shots and two penalty corners, but was unable to convert any of those to a goal. The Huskies had the same problem, taking two shots and two penalty corners, but coming up empty-handed. Heading into halftime, the score was 0-0. The Tribe's offense stepped up the pace in the second half, taking a total of 15 shots and five penalty corners. Ekberg scored her first goal of the game at the 21:30 mark when a pass was deflected off a Northeastern defender and she sprawled on the ground, forcing the ball into the goal. Less than ten minutes later, Ekberg scored again, tying her for a team-high 12 goals so far this season. A shot from senior Jess Jiao (Hummelstown, Pa.) was blocked by Kathleen Madaus (Boylston, MA) and Ekberg took advantage of the loose ball and sent it into the goal. Kristen Southerland (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored the final goal for the Tribe on a pass from senior Katie Silverthorne (Fairfax, Va.) with just 37 seconds left on the clock. Northeastern closes out the regular season on Sunday with a game at second-ranked Old Dominion. SCORING
