PRINCETON, NJ - The Northeastern University field hockey team defeated Syracuse 1-0 in overtime on Sunday in a game played at Princeton.

Junior Sarah Broderick (Harwich, MA) scored the game-winner at 7:32 of OT off a pass from Kelly Williams (Shoreham, NY). It was the third straight game Broderick has scored a goal, collecting five over that span.

With the win, Northeastern improves to 3-1 on the season, with the only defeat coming on Friday 4-2 against Princeton. The loss evens Syracuse's record at 2-2. NU next plays on Saturday at Vermont.

Senior Kathleen Madaus recorded the shutout in net for the Huskies. It was the 18th shutout of her career, and the seventh time she has posted a shutout in a 1-0 NU victory. She made seven saves for the game.

The game caps a brilliant week for Broderick, who had a hat trick last Monday against Massachusetts, a goal on Friday versus Princeton and now the overtime game-winner against Syracuse. Broderick now has 11 points on the season to lead the Huskies.

Williams has scored at least one point in each game thus far this season, with a goal and four assists.
