BOSTON, MA — Northeastern sophomore Mari Creatini (Auburndale, MA) tallied a goal and assisted on another, as the Huskies opened the season with a 4-0 victory over visiting Quinnipiac in a non-conference contest at Sweeney Field.

Senior co-captain Fior Arrindell (Oakville, CT) put NU up, 1-0, converting on a perfectly executed penalty corner. Creatini knocked the corner to Aleisha Bemis (Oakland, ME), who set the ball for Arrindell’s blistering shot less than five minutes into the half.

Less than three minutes later, Creatini gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead after sending home a pass from Leigh Shea (Ipswich, MA) past Quinnipiac netminder Erin McKay (Norwood, MA).

NU senior Sarah Broderick (Harwich, MA), the 2001 America East Offensive Player of the Year, picked up where she left off last season by smacking a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net with 12 minutes to go in the half.

The Huskies went into the break with a 3-0 lead and dominated play most of the game. NU outshot Quinnipiac, 31-0, and held a 20-0 penalty corner advantage.

McKay, a freshman, kept the Bobcats in the game with 15 saves, including 13 in the second half.

Freshman Jay Quinn (Watertown, MA) banged home a rebound for the first goal of her career with 10 minutes remaining in the contest to complete the scoring.
