| 2002 Schedule/Results Northeastern 1, William & Mary 0 (OT)
Northeastern senior Sarah Broderick calmly settled a pass from Mari Creatini in the middle of the circle with two William & Mary defenders bearing down on her from behind, and knocked the ball into the empty net to lift the host Huskies to a thrilling 1-0 victory with 1:29 remaining in overtime at Sweeney Field. Broderick started the play by intercepting a Tribe pass deep in the NU zone. She then raced down the middle of the field on a breakaway with Creatini on her right. With William & Mary goalie Claire Miller approaching, Broderick slid a pass to Creatini, who drew Miller away from the net and played a perfect pass back to Broderick for the game winner. The Huskies remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0 and making their season-opening win streak the longest since 1980. The Tribe, who ended the season ranked 13th in the country in 2001, fell to 1-3. Although there weren't many scoring opportunities in the match, both teams had excellent chances go awry, due to excellent goaltending. NU senior Emily Roy stopped five shots, recording her second shutout of the season and third of her career. Miller had seven saves for the Tribe. Roy's best effort came with 10 minutes left in regulation. After Fior Arrindell rocketed a corner off the leg pads of a diving Miller, the ball popped into mid-air and was batted in the goal by Creatini. While the Huskies were celebrating, the goal was waved off and the Tribe immediately sprinted downfield on a 4-on-0 breakaway. Roy left her crease, met the onslaught at the top of the circle, and managed to break up the rush and save the game. Northeastern had two penalty corners at the end of regulation, but couldn't get a shot on net, sending the game into OT. The Huskies outshot William & Mary 13-9 and held a 12-8 penalty corner advantage. Scoring
