In its first game of the 2006 season, the Northeastern field hockey team shut out the host New Hampshire Wildcats, 5-0, in Durham, NH.
Stephanie Casper scored two goals for the Huskies, one each in the first and second half, as NU scored first and never looked back.
Senior co-captain Sarah Eckhoff began the scoring at the 8:03 mark of the first half, from an assist by Ashley Bascetta. Eckhoff was one of five Huskies to register two points in the game, as she later recorded an assist on Ashley Webber's goal, the team's fifth of the evening.
Casper, Webber (1 goal, 1 assist), Bascetta (1 goal, 1 assist) and Ashley D'Ambra (2 assists) also recorded two points for the Huskies, who out-shot the Wildcats by a 23-3 margin.
Sophomore goaltender Colleen Duffy was only called upon to make one save for the Huskies throughout the evening.
Northeastern gets a week off before the team's next game, which takes place Saturday, September 2 against Penn State. The game will be held on the campus of the University of Connecticut.
