NU ends season with 2-0 loss at VCU

Northeastern surrendered two second-half goals to Virginia Commonwealth
and lost 2-0 Sunday in Richmond, Va. The Huskies finish the season
7-13, and tied for seventh in the CAA with a 1-7 conference record.
The Huskies outshot the rams 5-3 in the first half, but could not
produce a goal. NU goalkeeper Colleen Duffy made two saves and kept a
clean sheet through 35 minutes, as the teams were tied 0-0 at halftime.
Virginia Commonwealth struck first off a penalty corner five minutes
into the second half. Alaina Vernetti sent the ball in to Flore van
Dessel, who stick-stopped for Rachel Krumm. Krumm's shot beat Duffy to
put the Huskies in a 1-0 hole.
The rams struck again with a little over ten minutes left in the game,
when Marle van Dessel carried the ball into the NU shooting circle, and
beat Duffy with a backhanded shot to the upper left corner.
Ashley Bascetta, Pam Aldridge, and Carolyn Malloy led the Huskies offense, each managing three shots, two on target.
