Northeastern played even with No. 5 James Madison through 35 minutes Friday night in Harrisonburg, Va., but surrendered five five second-half goals and lost 5-0.
James Madison dominated play early on, claiming a 12-2 first-half shot advantage, but the Huskies hung with the nationally-ranked Dukes and went into the locker room tied at 0. Colleen Duffy made seven saves in the first 35 mintues to help keep the teams level at halftime.
James Madison kept up the offensive pressure in the second half, and it started to pay dividends. JMU's Ashley Walls sent a pass from the right side of the circle to Meghan Bain who shot from four yards out in the middle of the circle, and beat Duffy to put the Dukes on the board four minutes into the second half. After a strong shot from the Dukes' Amy Daniel found the back of the cage, Walls again found Bain with a pass a few yards away from goal, and Bain redirected the ball into the net for her second goal of the game.
The Huskies struggled to generate offense, managing only two shots in the game, and JMU took advantage of the posessions to widen the gap. Midway through the period, Lauren Walls found herself in space and took an open shot from 15 yards out which beat Duffy and gave JMU a 4-0 lead. Ashley Walls picked up her third assist on the Dukes' fifth goal, when she found Delores de Rooij, who drove up the right side, cut back to the middle, and beat the keeper to give James Madison a hefty 5-0 lead.
The loss dropped the Huskies to 1-6 in the CAA and 7-12 overall, and also eliminated the team from CAA tournament contention. The team closes out its 2008 schedule against VIrginia Commonwealth Sunday at 1 p.m.
