Junior Pam Aldridge's goal with 1:07 remaining in regulation lifted the
Northeastern Huskies to a 4-3 win over Boston University on Sunday
afternoon at Sweeney Field. Sophomore Annie Clayman, freshman Nicola Graham and sophomore Carolyn Malloy also scored for the Huskies, who have won three straight.
Offense was on display from the outset as the teams combined to score three goals in the first seven and a half minutes. Sophomore Kaela Barker was the architect of the opening goal just over four minutes in. Using some fancy stickwork, Barker eluded two Terrier defenders to the right of the net and found Malloy in front, who tucked it past BU keeper Amanda Smith for the 1-0 lead.
The Terriers answered quickly, as redshirt freshman Rachael White scored her first collegiate goal off a penalty corner just 47 seconds after Malloy's tally. Freshman Jacinda McLeod drew an assist as her shot from just inside the arc was tipped home by White in front.
The Huskies stormed right back a minute and a half later when Malloy fed Graham in front of the net for her first collegiate goal. Showing great patience, Graham waited until Smith went down to make the save, before slotting the ball past the keeper's outstretched arms for the go-ahead tally.
The lead lasted only 23 minutes, however, as BU junior Allie Dolce pushed a rebound past Husky keeper Lizzie Priest just before the break.
Northeastern went back ahead at the 39:51 mark when Graham supplied Clayman for her first goal of the season, giving NU a 3-2 advantage.
It was the Huskies' third goal on their third shot of the game.
Once again, the Terriers fought back. After a broken corner, senior Haley Robinson threw the ball into traffic in front. The pass landed on the stick of senior Nikki Lloyd, who directed the ball to the boards for the tie.
The contest looked to be heading for overtime until Aldridge collected a loose ball five yards out and tucked it inside the far post for the eventual game-winner.
BU held the advantage in shots 12-11, including a 9-2 margin in the first half.
The Huskies will look for their fourth straight victory when they travel to Providence on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
