The Northeastern Huskies (9-5, 3-1 CAA) dropped a hard-fought decision to cross-town rival Boston College (11-3, 1-3 ACC), 3-2 at Sweeney Field on Friday. Sophomore Carolyn Malloy had a goal and an assist and freshman Crystal Poland found the back of the net for the 12th time this season in her return to the Husky lineup.

The teams alternated goals, with Boston College striking first and last in the match. Senior co-captain Chelsey Feole opened the scoring five minutes in with a powerful strike on the rush. It was Feole's 17th goal of the season, and fifth tally in her last two games against the Huskies.

Northeastern keeper Lizzie Priest had to come up big only minutes later as she kicked away Janna Anctil's attempt from eight yards out.

In the final minute of the first half, the Huskies' hard work in the middle of the field paid off. Malloy jumped on a loose ball in the Eagles' end and initiated the break out with Poland to her left. Malloy dribbled to the endline and provided a perfect cross for her teammate, who tipped the ball into the cage with 38 seconds remaining.

Anctil put Boston College back in the lead at the 40:03 mark, when she one-timed a pass from Jessica Roberts into the net off a penalty corner.

The Huskies were undeterred. Freshman Emily Norell earned her first collegiate point with a beautiful shot-pass onto the stick of Malloy in front, who redirected the ball past BC keeper Kristine Stigas.

Less than a minute later, however, BC grabbed the lead for good. Junior co-captain Emily Kozniuk uncorked a lazer past Priest from the top of the arc, following a penalty corner. Anctil earned the lone assist, supplying the ball to Kozniuk from the endline.

In the game's final 10 minutes, the Huskies pushed forward in numbers in an attempt to pull even once again. Poland came close when she unleashed a backhand rocket from 11 yards out, but Stigas was up to the task with a quick glove save. From that point on, the Eagles effectively put enough bodies behind the ball to stifle any further Husky attacks.

Boston College outshot the Huskies by a 15-11 margin, but were outcornered by NU, 8-5.

Northeastern returns to CAA action on Friday, Oct. 23 with a pivotal road contest against Hofstra at 3 p.m. The Pride are currently one spot behind the Huskies in the CAA standings.
