Eight members of the Northeastern University field hockey team were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's Division I Academic Squad, the NFHCA announced on Monday. Seniors Stephanie Casper and Ashley D'Ambra, junior Rachel Wilkes, sophomores Montana Hewlett and Samantha Sewell, and freshmen Pam Aldridge, Emma Boggio and Anne-Reike Stuhlmann were all named to the squad.
Casper appears on the Academic Squad for the fifth consecutive season. The senior forward played in all 21 games for the Huskies, scoring three goals and two assists for eight points. D’Ambra and Wilkes earned a spot on the team for the second consecutive season. As tri-captain D’Ambra started in all 21 games for the Huskies, finishing second on the team with four assists, two of which came in the Huskies’ 3-2 win over Towson in the CAA Quarterfinals. Wilkes appeared in 10 games for the Huskies and took three shots on goal.
Hewlett and Sewell also made the Academic Squad for a second-straight year. Hewlett was a reliable midfielder for Northeastern, playing in all 21 games with one assist and on defensive save. Sewell did not appear in any games for Northeastern after redshirted her first season with NU.
Aldridge, Boggio and Stuhlmann all earned spots on the team in their first years. Aldridge played in all 21 games, starting 20, and posted two goals and two assists for six points. Boggio also played in 21 games for Northeastern and led the team with three game-winning goals, one of which came in the CAA Quarterfinals against Towson. Boggio was also named CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 8. Stuhlmann appeared in all 21 games, starting 20, and earned an assist in the team’s 3-2 win over Towson on Oct. 7.
To be eligible for the Academic Squad, student-athletes must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.
As a team, Northeastern was also recognized as one of 43 Division I teams to have a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or over for the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year. The Huskies were one of only three CAA teams to receive the honor.
Northeastern finished the CAA regular season fourth in the conference with a 4-4 record and ended the season with an overall mark of 9-12. The Huskies defeated Towson in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament before falling to top-seeded Old Dominion in the semifinals of the tournament.
