Forcucci named defensive coordinator

Frank Forcucci has been named the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach of the Northeastern University football team, head coach Rocky Hager announced today. Forcucci brings nine years of experience as a Division I assistant coach, five years of experience as a defensive coordinator, to Northeastern.
Forcucci brings a winning attitude and a creative defensive plan to Northeastern. In all five seasons as a defensive coordinator, Forcucci’s defenses have ranked first in their respective conferences in tackles for a loss and sacks. His defense has been a key to success as his teams have won three conference championships in those five seasons.
Forcucci is coming off a three-year stint as the defensive coordinator at Fordham University. His Rams defenses dominated in the Patriot League, ranking first in the league in pass defense and second in total defense in 2008. In 2007, he helped lead a defense that ranked 13th in the country in tackles for a loss. That season, Fordham won the Patriot League championship. During his first season with Fordham in 2006, the Rams’ defense ranked first in the conference in turnovers and 11th in the country in tackles for a loss. One of Forcucci’s star players was Marcus Taylor, who was the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year.
Prior to joining Fordham, Forcucci was the defensive coordinator at Central Connecticut State for two seasons from 2004-05. In both seasons under Forcucci, the Blue Devils ranked first in the Northeast Conference in sacks and tackles for a loss. In 2005, his defense ranked 10th in the country in sacks and 11th in turnovers. Forcucci had 10 players earn All-Conference honors under him.
Forcucci got his Division I coaching start at Massachusetts, where he was director of football operations in 1999, defensive line coach in 2000 and outside linebackers coach from 2001-03. In his five seasons at Massachusetts, the Minutemen twice won the Atlantic 10 championship. The team ranked first in the conference in 2000 in total defense and sacks. As outside linebackers coach, Forcucci mentored Jeremy Cain, who was a Sports Network All-American in 2002 and ’03.
Forcucci also boasts 10 years of experience as a high school coach. He got his start at Wolcott High School in Wolcott, Conn., serving as offensive coordinator from 1989-93. He then moved on to Bristol Central High School in Bristol, Conn., where he was defensive coordinator from 1994-97 and then assumed head coaching duties for the 1998 season.
Forcucci earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Haven in 1987. A member of the American Football Coaches Association, Forcucci and his wife Heather reside in Boston with their daughter Sadira.
