The Huskies lost their sixth straight game, falling 42-17 at Maine. Andy Alsup put NU ahead with 8:38 left in the first quarter on an 86-yard punt return for a touchdown, the longest punt runback for a score in school history and the team’s first since 1986. But it was all Black Bears after that as Maine scored four unanswered TDs to take a 28-7 edge at the half.
NU QB Logan Galli threw a pair of interceptions that proved costly, one returned by Maine’s Amos Hall 19 yards to put the Bears up 21-7. The Husky offense continued to sputter after intermission and Maine increased its advantage to 42-10 on Dwayne Wilmot’s third TD reception of the day, with 10:02 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Huskies answered less than two minutes later as Galli replacement Adam Browne connected with Dave Klemic on a 48-yard scoring play. NU got no closer, however.
The Huskies, who had won seven straight over Maine, have now lost the last three meetings.
