An injury-torn Northeastern squad fell to William & Mary 26-15 Oct. 28 at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va. It was NU’s fifth straight loss.
Tribe field goal kicker Brett Sterba kicked four field goals on four attempts from distances of 37, 25, 23 and 46 yards. William & Mary quarterback David Corley threw for 426 passing yards in the victory, the second highest total ever by an NU opponent, with 168 of them going to Chris Rosier.
In the losing effort, Dave Klemic found the endzone twice to set yet another record, the all-time Atlantic 10 mark for career touchdown receptions with 40. He also had 128 all purpose yards to give him a total of 4001 in his collegiate career. Quarterback Logan Galli went 20 for 38 on the day for 256 yards.
The Tribe led 9-7 at the half and came out strong after intermission, scoring on their first drive on a 46-yard Sterba field goal and then again on their next possession as Corley connected with Marcus Howard on an 18-yard play for a 19-7 edge with 9:07 left in the third quarter. Klemic scored his second TD of the day on a 22-yard pass from Galli with 5:05 left in the third, and NU added a two-point conversion to cut the Tribe advantage to four. The Huskies then had several chances to take the lead, but couldn’t capitalize.
A Joe Gazzola interception set up NU on its own 48-yard line near the end of the third quarter, but NU was forced to punt. The Tribe also punted on their ensuing possession and Klemic tipped it, giving the Huskies the ball on the William & Mary 42. NU went three and out, punting again.
The Tribe’s next drive ended with Corley’s 2 yard QB sneak for a TD that put the Tribe ahead by a comfortable 11 points.
