Orio named an FCS Academic All-Star

Northeastern University junior quarterback Anthony Orio was named to the 10th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star Team, the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) announced last Friday at the FCS championship game in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Football players from all Football Championship Subdivision institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials.

Orio, who is majoring in Biochemistry at Northeastern, recently completed his third season as the Huskies’ starting quarterback. He set career highs in passing yards (1,558), passing efficiency (124.1) and rushing touchdowns (4) while also tying his career high in passing touchdowns with eight.

Orio is currently Northeastern’s all-time leader in passing accuracy with a career 56.7 completion percentage. He is also sixth in career passing yards (3,482) and eighth in career touchdown passes (19).

Orio was one of six players from CAA Football to earn the honor. In total, 51 FCS players were named to the all-star team.

The Northeastern University football team finished the 2007 season with a 3-8 record, 2-6 in CAA Football. The Huskies, who played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, defeated two nationally ranked opponents, New Hampshire and Hofstra, in back-to-back weeks.
