| Huskies hold spring game at Parsons
The first drive nearly ended in a touchdown when senior John Sperrazza ran a play action, but his toss to junior Tony Lott was a bit too long and he was unable to catch the ball. However, in the second drive, Sperrazza hit a couple of 20-yard shots to seniors Chris Plum and Brian Mandeville to get the offense into the red zone. Junior Mat Johnson got the offense on the board with a 30-yard field goal.
On the third drive, it looked as if the defense would stop the offense cold without any positive yardage, but sophomore Alex Dulski connected with junior Ron Conway on a catch in the middle of the field and he took it 75 yards for a touchdown.
Another Husky that had a strong performance was senior tailback Alex Broomfield, who picked up a 40-yard rushing touchdown and then caught a pass from Sperrazza for a nine-yard touchdown.
After the game, the team held its 2007 awards ceremony and head coach Rocky Hager presided over the affair. Maurice Murray was named the offensive MVP while Joe Mele was named defensive MVP and Ron Conway was selected as the special teams MVP. Kevin Brown won the Zabilski Award as the most dedicated player while Murray picked up the Chicken Lou's Award for his heart and attitude. Sophomores Greg Niland and Nate Thellen were named Co-Rookies of the Year. Senior Anthony Orio was named most improved offensive player while outgoing senior Jason Anzalone was named most improved defensive player. Junior Kevin Newhall earned the Chris Midgett Award as the team's best offensive lineman. Senior Corey Thomas was given the Ironman Award for his efforts in the weight room.
The team also honored all 10 of its outgoing seniors, including Murray, Mele, Anzalone, Brown, John Swenson, Barry Jeanson, Scott Kaplan, A.J. Lillie, Chris Zambelli and Jarrett Henderson.
The 2008 Huskies will now look toward summer camp and will begin their season on Thursday, Aug. 28 at Ball State in Muncie, Ind. The full 2008 schedule can be seen here.
