First season at NU: 2009 Alma mater: Fitchburg State '06
Corey Hetherman joins Northeastern as the outside linebackers coach. Hetherman has three seasons of coaching experience, including the last two years as an assistant coach at Springfield College. He also coached at King’s College and at his alma mater Fitchburg State.
After playing one season at UMass Lowell, Hetherman transferred to Fitchburg State in 2003 and became a three-year starting quarterback. He led the Falcons to two MASCAC championships, two NEFC Bogan Division championships, two NEFC championship game appearances and two ECAC Bowl games. His record as starting quarterback was 21-11, and he was a three-time MASCAC and NEFC All-Scholastic team selection. Hetherman was also a team captain during his senior season in 2005.
After finishing his collegiate career, Hetherman then played professional football in Europe for two seasons, serving as the starting quarterback for the Carinthian Black Lions of the Austrian Football League in 2006 and for the Wuerzburg Panthers of the German Football League in 2007. He also served as offensive coordinator for both teams.
Hetherman earned a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at Fitchburg State in 2006 and a master’s degree in Physical Education in Athletic Administration from Springfield College in 2009.
