Former Huskies tailback and all-time rushing king Maurice Murray was featured in Wednesday's The Journal News, a newspaper in his hometown of Mamaroneck, N.Y. The story focuses on Murray's success at Northeastern and his hopes to play in the NFL. Murray finished his Northeastern career as the all-time school leader in rushing yards (3,806) and touchdowns (43) and was named first-team All-CAA Football and All-New England in 2007.

Thomas featured in CAA Football Blog
Senior defensive lineman Corey Thomas has posted his final blog entry this week on CAASports.com. The blog was part of CAA Football's effort to follow the 2008 spring season in a behind-the-scenes fashion. Orio earns NFF Academic honor
Quarterback Anthony Orio was named to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, the organization recently announced. The honor is given to a select few in all of college football's divisions who have achieved at least a 3.2 GPA and was a significant contributor to his team. Orio continues to rack up the academic awards, having been named to the CAA Football Academic All-Conference team and the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association Academic All-Star team.

Huskies host Bone Marrow Drive
The Huskies hosted their Bone Marrow Drive at Solomon Court on Thursday and the event was deemed a success after the team helped bring in over 400 people to sign up to the National Marrow Donor Registry and become potential donors to people in dire need of transplants. The event was organized by Sarah Gigantino in the football office.

Spring game at Parsons
The Huskies held their annual spring game Saturday at Parsons Field in front of fans, parents and alumni. The offense took on the defense and the offense starred, scoring on six drives. Senior Alex Broomfield scored two touchdowns while sophomore Alex Dulski connected with junior Ron Conway on a 75-yard touchdown pass. The Huskies then had their awards ceremony, and their 10 outgoing seniors were honored, including Maurice Murray, who was named the MVP of the offense.

Four Huskies named Academic All-Conference
Four Huskies have been named to CAA Football's Academic All-Conference team, the league office announced Monday. Senior captain Joe Mele, senior Barry Jeanson, junior Anthony Orio and redshirt freshman David Akinniyi were all honored. Jeanson has earned the honor in all four years of eligibility while Orio picks up his third such honor and Mele his second. These four selections now give Northeastern 23 academic all-conference honors under head coach Rocky Hager.

Huskies add 11th recruit
Head coach Rocky Hager has announced that he has signed an 11th recruit for his class of 2008. Joining Northeastern next season will be defensive back Emmanuel Matthews, who hails from Pittsburgh. Matthews played three seasons of varsity football at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and was a two-time all-conference selection. The addition of Matthews gives Hager four recruits in the secondary.

Huskies announce 2008 schedule
Head coach Rocky Hager has announced his schedule for 2008 and the slate includes four tough non-conference games, including two matchups with FBS teams, and an eight-game conference schedule in CAA Football, which boasts five 2007 FCS playoff teams. The Huskies will open the season on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Muncie, Ind. at Ball State, which earned a berth to the 2008 International Bowl. The Huskies will also play at Georgia Southern Sept. 13 before playing at Big East member Syracuse on Sept. 20. The Huskies will host UC Davis in their home opener at Parsons Field on Sept. 27. Northeastern will play five games at Parsons in 2008, four of which will take place at 2 p.m. In addition to UC Davis, the Huskies will entertain Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Villanova and Rhode Island in Brookline.

Huskies announce recruiting class of 2008
Head coach Rocky Hager has announced his recruiting class for the upcoming 2008 season and it includes 10 student-athletes that come from a variety of backgrounds. Hager has signed three local recruits, including wide receiver Jesse Sparks from Cambridge, offensive lineman Brian Palangi from Nahant, Mass., and defensive back Elijah Harris from North Attleboro, Mass. Of the 10 recruits, three are linebackers, three are defensive backs, two are offensive lineman, one is a wide receiver and one is a quarterback.
