Mitchell illustrated his explosiveness as a punt and kick returner during the 2001 season and subsequently was moved from his spot as a backup at strong safety to a starting receiver. An injury cut short his 2002 season, but he was back at 100 percent last year, and it showed in his production as he teamed with Cory Parks to give the Huskies the second-best receiving tandem in the Atlantic 10 in terms of combined receiving yards. A threat to score anytime he touches the football, Mitchell is the school record-holder for career punt return yards (915).

2004: Started 10 games at wide receiver, and also served as part-time punt-returner and kick-returner...finished second on the team in receptions (42, a career-high), receiving yards (625), and touchdown receptions (three)...led the Atlantic 10 in punt return average (11.6)...led team in punt return yards (209) and punt returns (18)...averaged 18.9 yards on kickoff returns...was second on the team in all-purpose yards with 996...rushed two times for 11 yards...had season-long 54 yard punt return to the Cheyney one-yard line to set up a score in NU's first victory of the season...caught game-tying 19 yard touchdown pass against William & Mary to send the game into overtime...had 4 catches for 104 yards in a victory over No. 14 Villanova...caught 6 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown, and returned 6 kickoffs 107 yards versus Harvard...capped off a 42-14 victory over Rhode Island with a 29-yard touchdown reception on Senior Day.

2003: Started all 12 games at wide receiver, while also serving as the full-time punt-returner and part-time kick-returner...finished second on the team in receptions (37), receiving yards (628) and touchdown catches (four)...ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in punt return average (10.8)...his 292 punt return yards are third most in school history, while his 27 punt returns rank fourth...led the team in kickoff return average (26.3)...rushed five times for 19 yards and a touchdown...was second on the team in all-purpose yards with 1176...named Atlantic 10 Special Teams Player of the Week after returning four punts for 58 yards and one kickoff for 70 yards against No. 20 Maine...his kickoff return put the ball on the Maine 20, and Miro Kesic kicked a field goal to put NU up 10-7...had a 30-yard punt return in that game, bringing the ball back to the UM 41, which set up the eventual game-winning touchdown...caught seven passes for 199 yards and touchdown, and returned six punts 73 yards versus Harvard...also snagged touchdowns against Albany, Rhode Island and Richmond...totaled 195 all-purpose yards against No. 4 Massachusetts, hauling in five balls for 115 yards, bringing back three punts for 22 yards, and returning two kickoffs for 58 yards...scored first career rushing TD on a reverse from four yards out versus James Madison.

2002: Made successful switch from defensive secondary to receiver...played in the first six games for the Huskies before a chest injury suffered against Rhode Island forced him to the sideline for the final seven games...led NU in punt return yards with 85 for an average of 7.7 per attempt...finished fourth on the team in receiving with 14 catches for 184 yards; led the Huskies in both categories at the time of his injury...in his first game as a wide receiver, pulled in three catches for 59 yards in a 48-0 win over Lock Haven...caught three balls for 57 yards and a touchdown against Massachusetts; made several slick moves to turn a screen pass into a 16-yard TD play that put NU up 21-3 versus the Minutemen...had career-best four receptions, for 20 yards, at Delaware.

2001: Ranked first in the Atlantic 10 with an NU-record 329 punt return yards...listed second in the A10 with 15.0 yards per punt return, eclipsing Bill LaFreniere’s NU record of 13.6 set in 1981...returned six kicks for 107 yards (17.8-yard average)...ran back a punt 50 yards for a touchdown with 7:01 left for NU’s only TD in loss to Maine...returned seven punts, tying the NU game record, for 99 yards against Maine; second-best punt return yard total in Husky history...returned a punt 63 yards for a TD at Rhode Island...defensively, recorded five tackles.
