Feb. 16, 2008
Boston, MA

The Northeastern University football team, led by head coach Rocky Hager, has announced its 2008 schedule and it will be as challenging as ever as the Huskies will take on two Football Bowl Subdivision teams, a perennial Football Championship Subdivision power and an eight-game CAA Football schedule that includes two of the five teams to reach the 2007 FCS Playoffs.

The Huskies will open the 2008 season on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Muncie, Ind. against Ball State, which won a share of the Mid-American Conference's Western Division in 2007 and played in the 2008 International Bowl.

Following a bye week, Northeastern will then challenge Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. on September 13. The Eagles have won six FCS championships, the most of any FCS team, with their most recent one coming in 2000. The two teams first met in 2005 at Parsons Field where the Eagles scored the game-tying touchdown with under a minute left and then hit a field goal in overtime to top the Huskies, 41-38.

The Huskies then will make school history by playing a second FBS team in one season, meeting the Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome on September 20. The Orange are members of the Big East.

The Huskies will then host UC Davis in their home opener at Parsons Field on September 27. The Huskies and Aggies met for the first time ever during the 2007 season with Davis coming out on top 28-10.

Northeastern will then play eight consecutive games against members of CAA Football, which became the first FCS conference in history to gain five berths into the FCS playoffs in 2007. The Huskies will travel to Towson on October 4, looking for their fourth straight victory over the Tigers. The following week, October 11, Northeastern will host Massachusetts, which has gone to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. On October 18, the Huskies will host New Hampshire and NU has upset a ranked Wildcats team in each of the last two seasons. UNH has made the playoffs in four straight seasons.

To close out October, the Huskies will make a trip to Orono on the 25th to play Maine.

To start November, the Huskies will play a pair of CAA Football South teams as they will host Villanova on November 1 and play at William & Mary on November 8. The Huskies defeated the Wildcats the last time Villanova visited Parsons Field in 2004 and they took William & Mary to overtime in each of the last two meetings. To end the regular season, Northeastern will visit Hofstra on November 15 and host Rhode Island on November 22.

The Huskies went 3-8 in 2007, 2-6 in CAA Football. Northeastern played six of its 11 games against teams that wound up with winning records, including all five eventual CAA Football playoff teams. Northeastern's 2007 schedule was ranked the 17th toughest in FCS by Warren Nolan.
