Nolen, who spent two seasons at Div. IA West Virginia before transferring to NU prior to the 2001 season, took over for graduated two-time All-American T.J. Hill at free safety last season and the Huskies didn’t miss a beat. He is an aggressive, hard hitter with strong cover skills, who is a top candidate for All-A10 honors in his final season as a Husky. With the loss of All-Conference strong safety Kurt Abrams to graduation, Nolen will move to fill that hole.

2002: Started all 13 games at free safety...listed fourth on the team with 66 tackles, the most of any player in the secondary...led the team with three interceptions and also broke up six pass plays...had season-high nine tackles in consecutive weeks against William & Mary and Richmond...forced William & Mary’s Rich Musinski to fumble after a catch deep in NU territory...made eight stops and had an interception in Homecoming win over Villanova....interception return 60 yards for a touchdown gave NU a 28-3 lead in third quarter versus UMass; added seven tackles against the Minutemen...on the first play after Shawn Brady threw an interception in the endzone, picked off a pass and ran it back 23 yards to the New Hampshire 2 to set up a Brady TD run that gave the Huskies a 21-6 lead...recovered a loose ball that set up NU at the James Madison 34 and led to a Tim Gale TD run and a 20-6 lead in the A10 title-clinching game.

2001: Played all 11 games, making four starts...spent considerable time in Coach Brown’s "dog" role, a combination defensive back/linebacker...ranked fourth on the team with 55 tackles, including three stops for losses...credited with a sack for an eight-yard loss in NU’s first-ever win against Delaware...had nine tackles at Harvard...moved into starting lineup at free safety for injured All-American T.J. Hill against Maine...had nine stops, seven unassisted to help lead Huskies to their first-ever A10 shutout, a 7-0 blanking of Richmond...recorded career-high 10 tackles and returned an interception for 25 yards on Homecoming against St. Mary’s, setting up a key insurance TD in the fourth quarter...averaged 8.8 tackles per game in Hill’s absence...recovered a fumble against James Madison...also broke up three pass plays.

Before NU: A great talent who was originally a recruit at West Virginia, spending the 1999 and 2000 seasons in Morgantown as a defensive back...redshirted at West Virginia in ’99....earned three letters in football and two in track at McKeesport High...a Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association All-Conference first team selection as a senior defensive back and captain in 1998...also a standout in track, specializing in the long jump.

Personal: Born Jan. 6, 1980...played high school football with current NU teammate Cecil Howard...enjoys traveling, movies, swimming and rafting...majoring in Management...Class of 2004.
