After a season biding his time behind a slew of proven veterans like Brian Hayden, Zach Falconer and Mike Provencher, Walter broke into the lineup as a regular reserve in 2000 and really came on at the end of that sophomore season. He earned a full-time starting role last season and continued to improve, developing into the most consistent linebacker on a team loaded with talented players at the position. Walter finished with a team-high 87 tackles, never having fewer than five stops in any game. Coach Brown says that it's Walter's passion for the game and his commitment to improving everyday that has made him one of the league's top linebackers. 2001: Started all 11 games, the only linebacker to do so...led the team and was 15th in the Atlantic 10 with 87 tackles...had 12 tackles for a loss, totaling 45 yards...ranked second on the team with 4.5 sacks for a combined loss of 21 yards...set career highs with 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks against Hofstra...made two stops during a key Delaware series, including one for a six-yard loss deep in Blue Hen territory, to force a punt; NU took over and marched for the go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter in its first-ever win over Delaware; finished with three tackles for losses totaling 10 yards against the Hens...recorded eight unassisted tackles against Harvard...forced a fumble against New Hampshire and recovered a fumble against Rhode Island.
