Baseball
Stephen E. Grolnic has been elected to the hall of Fame for his accomplishments in the sport of baseball.
Grolnic was the Most Valuable Player of the 1966 baseball squad, arguably the University's greatest ever. He earned NCAA District I all-star status en route to Omaha, where the Huskies made their first College World Series appearance. He fanned 7 and 16 batters respectively in critical 1966 title run games against Providence and Maine. He pitched a one-hitter against Boston College, to seal the Huskies first ever Greater Boston League crown. He later allowed only four hits in a 10-2 victory over BC in the NCAA Districts at Fenway, clinching a World Series berth. With a 2.99 ERA, 7-4 record and 97 strikeouts, Grolnic was named the GBL's most outstanding player in 1966. As a junior, he finished with 100 strikeouts, a Husky record that still stands.
Grolnic, the son of Goldie and the late David Grolnic, resides in Westwood with his wife Joanne. They have three children, Debbie, Brent and Karyn.
