2009 Huskies Coaches Caravan to kick off in August

The 2009 Northeastern Huskies Coaches Caravan, featuring athletics
director Peter Roby and various NU head coaches, is set to kick off
this August. Northeastern Athletics will visit the cities of Chicago,
Washington and New York to give Huskies alumni, fans and supporters the
opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of the latest happenings in
Northeastern Athletics. Each caravan will feature a cocktail reception and a question and answer session with Peter Roby and the head coaches.

Northeastern Hall of Famer Walsh passes
Men's Basketball 7/1/09
Francis X. "Inga" Walsh, Class of 1953 and one of the original six Northeastern Athletics
Hall of Fame members, passed away on June 29 at Brigham and Women's
Hospital in Boston. A two-sport letterman in men's basketball and baseball, Walsh was the first dominant player in Northeastern men's basketball history, becoming the first Husky to score 1,000 points.

Northover wins Jamaican shot put championship
Women's Track & Field 7/1/09
Former Northeastern track & field star and current Huskies assistant coach Zara Northover recently won the shot put at the Jamaica National Senior Championship in Kingston, Jamaica. Northover had a season-best throw of 53'4.5 to win the competition. She will next compete at the Central American and Caribbean Track & Field Senior Championship July 3-5 in Havana, Cuba, with the hopes of qualifying for Jamaica's World Championships team. Northover was a five-time NCAA Championship qualifier for Northeastern and became the first alumna in school history to compete in women's track & field in the Olympics.

Huskies announce recruiting class for 2009-10
Men's Hockey 6/24/09
Northeastern men's hockey head coach Greg Cronin has announced his
recruiting class for the 2009-10 season. Among the nine student-athletes
joining the Huskies this season are Drew and Justin Daniels, a pair of
NHL draft picks, and Chris Rawlings, the 2009 BCHL Most Valuable
Player. Also joining the Huskies are Drew Ellement, Bryan Mountain,
Jake Newton, Chris Student, Garrett Vermeersch and Robbie Vrolyk. The nine-player class represents the largest class for head coach Greg Cronin.

Northeastern Women's Athletics Golf Tournament Sept. 14

The third annual Northeastern Women's Athletics Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, Sept. 14, at the Newton Commonwealth Golf Course in Newton, Mass. Registration for the event, which benefits the women's athletics programs at Northeastern, is now open. Corporate sponsorship is also available. The field is limited to 120 players on a first-come, first-serve basis. Huskies announce 2009 schedule
Volleyball 6/18/09
The defending CAA regular season champion Huskies have released their
2009 schedule, head coach Ken Nichols announced Thursday. Northeastern
will play a 28-game slate that will include nine home dates at Solomon
Court. The Huskies will open the season Aug. 28 against Long Island in
the UMBC Tournament in Baltimore.

Thiessen wins Stanley Cup with Penguins
Men's Hockey 6/15/09
Former Northeastern men's hockey goaltender Brad Thiessen recently
celebrated winning the Stanley Cup with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins. After the Penguins came away with a 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings
in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Friday, he had the
opportunity to hoist the Stanley Cup. Thiessen signed with the Penguins on the April 3 and practiced with the team throughout the NHL playoffs.
