Junior captain Matt Janning of the Northeastern men's basketball team was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 10 first team, the organization announced Thursday.

The NABC Division I All-District teams, recognizing the nation’s best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. Janning, who was one of 240 student-athletes named to one of the teams in 24 districts, is now eligible for the State Farm Coaches’ Division I All-America teams to be announced on Saturday, April 4, at Hoop City in the COBO Center at 10 a.m. as part of the 2009 NABC Convention in Detroit.

Janning, who was a NABC District 1 second team selection last season, averaged 14.3 points and 4.8 rebounds for a Northeastern team that went 18-11, 12-6 in the CAA this season. Janning had seven 20-point games on the season and was named CAA Player of the Week twice (Nov. 24 & Jan. 26).

Earlier this season, Janning became the 28th Husky to reach the 1,000 career points plateau. He is currently 11th all-time at Northeastern with 1,284 points.

Janning and the Huskies have earned the No. 3 seed in the CAA Tournament and will face either Drexel or Towson Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va., at 8:30 p.m.
