Huskies to play Siena as part of ESPN marathon
Sept. 16, 2009
Boston, Mass.
The Northeastern University men’s basketball team will play at Siena on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 12 p.m., in a nationally televised event on ESPN. The game is part of the network’s second annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.
The Huskies and Saints will do battle at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. In addition to airing live on ESPN, the game will also stream live over the web at ESPN360.com. The Huskies are one of two CAA schools representing the conference in the event. Drexel will play at Niagara at 8 a.m. that day.
In total, the College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon will include live broadcasts of 19 college basketball games, 17 men’s games and two women’s games, that represent a minimum of 20 conferences across 14 states and five time zones. 12 games will broadcast live on ESPN, four on ESPN2, two on ESPNU and one on ESPN360.com, which will also simulcast all the ESPN and ESPN2 games.
The Huskies are no strangers to television and the ESPN family of networks. Last season alone, Northeastern appeared on 19 live television broadcasts, including three on ESPNU and one national broadcast on ESPN2.
In addition to playing Siena on ESPN, the Huskies will also appear on ESPNU Dec. 22-23 when they participate in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, taking on St. Mary’s in the first round and either Western Michigan or USC in the second round.
Northeastern, under fourth-year head coach Bill Coen, returns four starters from last season’s team that finished 19-13 overall, 12-6 in the CAA. The Huskies advanced to postseason for just the second time since 1991 and won their first postseason game since 1984, a 64-62 victory at Wyoming in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational.
