Northeastern men's basketball seniors Manny Adako, Baptiste Bataille and Matt Janning have been named team captains for the 2009-10 season, head coach Bill Coen announced Friday.
Janning becomes just the second Huskies player to captain the team for three seasons, joining Ben Harlee, who led the Huskies from 1992-95. The senior guard from Watertown, Minn., is NU's 11th all-time leading scorer with 1,328 points. He is a two-time All-CAA selection, first team in 2009, second team in 2008. He was also the 2007 CAA Rookie of the Year.
Adako, who hails from Decatur, Ga., is coming off a fantastic 2008-09 season that saw him average 11.3 points a game while shooting over 56 percent. He finished second in the CAA in shooting percentage and was named third-team All-CAA. He is 44th all-time in scoring at Northeastern with 839 points.
Bataille, a native of Ferin, France, is one of the grittiest players to ever wear the Northeastern uniform. He has played valiantly as the team's backup point guard. Last season, he averaged 3.5 points and 1.5 assists while playing 14.5 minutes a game. He is a two-time CAA All-Academic team selection.
Adako and Bataille are the 108th and 109th captains in the history of Northeastern men's basketball.
Northeastern, which finished 19-13 last season and won its first postseason game since 1984, will hold its first practice on Saturday as the Huskies prepare for their Nov. 17 season opener at Siena.
