Oct. 20, 2009
Boston, Mass.
Senior captains Matt Janning and Manny Adako have been selected to preseason All-CAA teams as part of the CAA Basketball Media Day at the ESPNZone in Washington, D.C. Janning was named to the preseason first team, and Adako was named to the preseason second team.
Northeastern was also picked to finish second in the preseason poll as voted on by the league's head coaches, sports information directors and selected members of the media. The league favorite is Old Dominion.
In addition, the Huskies announced their full television package, which features at least 13 games with the potential of earning more. The Huskies will open the season at Siena on Nov. 17 as part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. NU will have at least two and possibly three televised games on the ESPN family of networks at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii Dec. 22-25.
The Huskies will have five home games televised, including Dec. 1 vs. Providence (Cox Sports Television), Jan. 7 vs. George Mason (The Comcast Network/Comcast SportsNet New England), Jan. 23 vs. Virginia Commonwealth (The Comcast Network/Comcast SportsNet New England), Jan. 30 vs. Old Dominion (Comcast SportsNet) and Feb. 23 vs. Hofstra (ESPNU).
Janning is now a two-time preseason All-Conference selection. He was named preseason All-CAA first team in 2008 and went on to earn All-CAA first team honors after the season. A three-year captain for the Huskies, Janning ranks 11th all-time in scoring at Northeastern with 1,328 points. In addition to first-team All-CAA honors in 2009, he was second-team All-CAA in 2008 and was the 2007 CAA Rookie of the Year. Last season, he led Northeastern in scoring (14.3 ppg) and was second in rebounds, assists and steals.
Adako earns his first preseason recognition following a stellar 2008-09 campaign. He finished second in the CAA in field goal percentage, shooting at a 56.6 percent clip. Averaging 11.3 points a game, the Decatur, Ga., native was named third-team All-CAA. He is 44th all-time in scoring at Northeastern with 839 points.
Receiving honorable mention honors is junior guard Chaisson Allen, who hails from Murfreesboro, Tenn. Allen led the Huskies in rebounds, assists and steals last season and was named to the CAA All-Defensive team.
Northeastern, under fourth-year head coach Bill Coen, returns four starters from last season's team that finished 19-13, 12-6 in the CAA, and earned its first postseason victory since 1984. The Huskies open the 2009-10 campaign at Siena on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m., on ESPN.
