Junior Matt Janning scored 19 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the Northeastern men's basketball team to a 69-59 victory over Queens University Monday night in Kingston, Ontario.
The game was the first of seven exhibition contests for the Huskies in Canada.
The Huskies and Golden Gaels were tied after the first quarter (the Canadians use the quarter system), before NU took a five-point lead into halftime. The Huskies extended their lead to 15 points in the third, but the Golden Gaels went on a run to close the gap. However, they were unable to get any closer than five points.
Ten Huskies scored on the night, including junior Baptiste Bataille, who had 11 points and three assists. Senior Eugene Spates chipped in 10 points while Ben Felix, a Canadian native, scored four points in his first action as a Husky. He redshirted the 2007-08 season.
The Huskies next play the University of Ottawa on Wednesday on the campus of Carleton University at 7 p.m.
