Five Northeastern men's basketball team players scored in double digits, led by junior Matt Janning's 20, as the Huskies defeated Laval University 84-72 Tuesday night in Quebec City.
This was the first time ever that an NCAA Division I basketball team has ever played at Laval. The win gives the Huskies a 5-1 record on their seven-game exhibition tour of Canada with one game remaining.
In a tight game after one quarter, the Huskies took control in the second, building a seven-point halftime lead. NU showed some balance as four different players had at least three field goals made.
In the second half, Laval got as close as four points, but the Huskies pulled away, using strong shooting and excellent defense. For the game, the Huskies shot 50 percent while forcing Laval to commit 23 turnovers. Those turnovers led to 20 NU points.
Janning led the Huskies with his 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting. He also had five of NU's 13 steals. Junior Manny Adako added 14 points while senior Matt Smith chipped in 13. Senior Eugene Spates (11) and junior Baptiste Bataille (10) were the other Huskies to put up double figures. Sophomore Chaisson Allen continued his strong play at the point, adding eight points, four steals and three assists.
The Huskies will wrap up their tour of Canada with a contest at Bishop's University Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
