Northeastern earns its first trip to the NCAA's as Perry Moss hits a half-court shot to send the America East title game against Holy Cross into overtime where the Huskies prevail, 81-79. Moss then hits a shot in the final seconds to lead NU past Fresno State in the big dance, but star forward Tom Chambers paces Utah to a win in round two.

Northeastern crushes Niagara for the America East crown and slips past St. Joseph's in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies and Villanova then play one of the longest and most amazing games in tournament history, going into three overtimes before the Wildcats prevail and move on to the Sweet 16. Dave Leitao and Perry Moss both play 54 minutes for NU.

The Reggie Lewis era begins. After beating Canisius to earn its third NCAA bid, Northeastern knocks off Long Island, getting 22 points from Wes Fuller and 21 from league Rookie of the Year Lewis. Virginia Commonwealth then defeats NU and goes to the Sweet 16 on Rolando Lamb's buzzer-beating jumper.

Reggie Lewis
Despite a sore wrist, league Player of the Year Reggie Lewis hits his last six shots en route to 29 points to lead the Huskies past rival Boston University and into the NCAA Tournament. Lewis, the nation's top-scoring sophomore, then has 22 against Illinois, but the Illini roll to a 19-point win behind 23 points from Ken Norman. Lewis finishes the year with an NU-record 748 points.

Jim Calhoun takes league Coach of the Year honors as Northeastern rolls to a 26-5 record. All-America East first-teamers Reggie Lewis and Andre LaFleur combine for 30 points as the Huskies beat Boston University and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. Lewis then scores 35 points (the most ever by a Husky in the tourney) and pulls 15 boards, but foul-plagued NU falls to Oklahoma.

Reggie Lewis nets 27 points and Andre LaFleur breaks the NCAA's all-time assist record as NU earns its fourth straight NCAA berth by defeating BU in the league title game for the third year in a row. The win is NU's 37th consecutive at home. Purdue then wins a shootout over NU and new coach Karl Fogel at the Carrier Dome. Lewis scores a team-high 23 points in his final college game.

Northeastern makes the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the Reggie Lewis days, topping Maine at Matthews Arena for the America East title behind 17 points from Ron Lacey and 16 from Dexter Jenkins. Rick Fox and King Rice then lead juggernaut North Carolina past NU despite 22 points and a game-high nine rebounds from All-America East first team selection Steve Carney.
