The Northeastern men's crew varsity boat defeated Boston University for the fourth consecutive year in the 27th annual Arlett Cup at the Charles River Saturday morning.
NU (1-0) crossed the finish line at 6:32.2 while the Terriers (1-2) finished behind at 6:36.8.
In what was expected to be a close race turned out to be an easy win for the Huskies. Last week, BU had lost to national power Brown by only a second and was expecting to continue its excellent rowing.
However, the Huskies had other ideas, getting off to a quick start and having a two lengths lead at 1000 meters and maintaining that lead until late when BU closed the gap a bit.
With the win, Northeastern improves its all-time record against the Terriers to 37-9 with a 21-6 record in the Arlett Cup.
In the second varsity race, BU edged NU 6:37.9 to 6:38.8 while in the freshman race, Northeastern won easily, 6:48.6 to 6:59.0.
Next week, NU will look to move to 2-0 when it meets Brown in the Dreissigaker Cup, Sat., April 17. The varsity race is at 9:12 a.m.
