The Northeastern University men's varsity crew opened their regular regatta season with a two length victory over Boston University in the 31st rowing of the Arlett Cup.
The Huskies rowed the placid 2000-meter Charles River course in 6:01.4 to the Terriers' 6:08.8. Northeastern came off the stake boat aggressively and had a two seat lead at the settle, which they increased to eight seats at 500. A power 10 at the 1000 meter gained them open water and by 1500 they were in command by over two lengths.
The victory gave Northeastern a 23-8 lead in Arlett Cup rowing and a 38-11 lead in the BU-NU series. It was a sweep of the river by the Huskies as both the freshmen and second varsity shells won easily.
Next week, NU hosts a highly ranked Brown crew in the Dreissigacker Cup on the Charles on Saturday at 9 a.m.
