The Northeastern University men’s rowing team will compete in six races during the 2009 regatta season before trying to improve on last year’s fifth place finish at the Eastern Sprints and fourth place finish at the IRA Regatta.
The Huskies will open the 2009 season by traveling to California March 28-29 to take on Stanford and California in the Redwood Shores Rowing Classic. These teams last met at the 2008 IRA Regatta where California came in third (5:39.021), followed by NU in fourth (5:42.399), and Stanford in fifth (5:43.324).
Northeastern will then host its first race on the Charles as the team takes on Boston University in the Arlett Cup on Saturday, April 11. The Huskies, who finished seven seconds ahead of BU in the race last year, hold a 23-8 advantage in the Arlett Cup and a 38-11 series advantage vs. BU. The varsity race is set to begin at 9:24 a.m.
The Huskies will be on the road the next two weeks, first stopping in Rhode Island to try face Brown in the Dreissigacker Cup on April 18. Then the team is off to Philadelphia, PA to take on Pennsylvania in the Burke Cup on Sunday, April 26.
On May 2, Northeastern will be back on the Charles trying to avenge last year’s one-second loss to Harvard in the Smith Cup. Harvard holds a 17-3 advantage in the race and a 27-3 series advantage over the Huskies. The varsity race is set to begin at 9:48 a.m.
The Huskies close out the season at the Eastern Sprints Sunday, May 10, before traveling to Rancho Cordova, CA to compete in the IRA Regatta Thursday, June 4- Saturday, June 6.
