Liotti signs with Worcester Sharks

Boston, Mass.
The Worcester Sharks have announced that they have signed former Northeastern defensemen Louis Liotti to an American Hockey League (AHL) contract. Liotti was a four-year starter for the Northeastern Huskies playing a career-record 146 games, missing only two in his entire career. Liotti is the third Husky to sign a professional contract this year joining Joe Vitale and Brad Thiessen.
Liotti was a defensemen in the truest sense of the word, a quality stay at home D-man who made few mistakes in his own end. He was plus-26 his final three seasons as a Husky and had a scoring line 6-24-30. Liotti was named the Hockey East Best Defensive Defensemen for the 2008-09 season. He is the second NU player to be named Hockey East Best Defensive Defenseman after Tim Judy in 2004-05. Liotti was also a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award, given to New England's best American-born Division I hockey player.
"Louis will be a great addition to our organization and we are looking forward to continuing his development as a professional hockey player," said Sharks General Manager Wayne Thomas. "Louis is an excellent defensive defenseman that can play in key situations. We praise the job that Northeastern Head Coach Greg Cronin and his staff have done to further Louis's career and congratulate them on an outstanding year."
Liotti was a two-year assistant captain with the Huskies and a valuable leader both on and off the ice. He was one of the catalysts in turning the Northeastern defense from one that allowed 120 goals in 34 games his freshmen year to a stingy 91 goals in 41 games his senior season. Liotti also helped to turn the Huskies program around from three wins his freshmen year to an impressive 25 his senior season, including Northeastern's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1994.
Before coming to Northeastern, Liotti was a standout defensemen for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. He was the captain of the team that had a 37-17-6 record and won the Western Conference Championship. Liotti is a native of Westbury, N.Y. and is a graduate of the Portledge School.
