Thiessen wins Stanley Cup with Penguins

Former Northeastern men's hockey goaltender Brad Thiessen recently celebrated winning the Stanley Cup with the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.

After the Penguins came away with a 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Friday, Thiessen had the opportunity to hoist the Stanley Cup.

Thiessen signed with the Penguins on the April 3. He practiced with the team throughout the NHL playoffs.

Thiessen had one of the most decorated seasons in Northeastern history in 2008-09. He went 25-12-4 with a 2.12 goals against average and .931 save percentage in 41 games. He led the Huskies to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1994. He was named first-team All-America and a Hobey Baker Hat Trick finalist. In addition, he was Hockey East Player of the Year and New England's Most Valuable Player. He was the only unanimous Hockey East All-Star, was named All-New England, Hockey East ITECH Goaltending Champion and won the Three Stars Award. He was named Hockey East Player of the Month in October and Hockey East Goalie of the Month in November, January and March.
