Boston, Mass.
The Worcester Sharks of the AHL, affiliate of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League and the Kalamazoo Wings of the East Coast Hockey League, announced the team has signed former Northeastern forward Dennis McCauley to an AHL contract.
McCauley, who graduated from Northeastern in 2009, was a four-year skater who ended his career with 129 games, scoring 45 total points (22 goals – 23 assists). The Billerica, Mass. native is the fourth Husky from last year’s squad to sign a professional contract, joining Joe Vitale and Brad Thiessen of the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins (AHL).
McCauley joins fellow graduate Louis Liotti on the 2009-10 Worcester Sharks. McCauley and Liotti own a rich tradition of skating together. Before skating with the Huskies for four seasons, the pair played together with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL for a couple of years. Liotti was inked by the Worcester Sharks in May 2009.
Northeastern’s newest professional was named captain as a junior in the 2007-08 season. Last year, McCauley finished with a 6-5-11 scoring line with a plus-6 rating and was a key cog in the Huskies’ fantastic run to the NCAA Tournament. His freshmen season (2005-06) was one to remember as McCauley scored his first collegiate goal and the team’s first tally of the season all on the same play. That year, McCauley was tabbed as Northeastern’s Most Improved Player.
While with Sioux City, McCauley captained the Musketeers’ 2004-05 squad to the USHL Western Conference Championship and a 37-17-0 record. That same season, he was named a USHL All-Star and Sioux City’s Most Improved Player.
The Sharks have their first three-game weekend coming up. The Sharks travel to Providence on Friday before returning home to host the Springfield Falcons at the DCU Center on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The Sharks cap the weekend off with a visit to Hartford on Sunday at 3p.m.
