| 2003-04 Schedule/Results Boston University 4, Northeastern 3 (OT)
Boston University’s Bryan Miller scored 1:58 into overtime to give the Terriers a 4-3 victory over Northeastern in Hockey East action in front of 2,873 fans at Walter Brown Arena. The loss snapped the Huskies five-game win streak and dropped NU's record to 5-10-2 overall and 1-8-1 in HEA play. BU improved to 6-6-6 and 3-5-2. "It was a great win for BU and a tough loss for Northeastern," said NU head coach Bruce Crowder. "Both teams were scrambling for points and it came down to a breakdown for a young kid in overtime. Both teams had opportunities to win. It's a tough loss, but we'll move on and continue to improve." Miller slipped a shot beneath a sprawling Gibson in a mad scramble in front of the net to give the Terriers the victory. BU held a 30-24 shot advantage for the game. NU dominated special teams play, going 2-for-6 with a man-advantage and killing off all five Terrier power-play opportunities. After falling behind 2-0 just 51 seconds into the second period, the Huskies exploded for three second-period goals to take a 3-2 advantage heading into the final period. The first two NU tallies came on the power play, with Eric Ortlip redirecting a shot from Jason Guerriero at 16:42 and Mike Morris wristing a shot from Jon Awe from the left circle, beating Fields to the short side, at 6:56. On the Huskies third shot of the second period, Trevor Reschny beat Fields with a backhander at 8:59 to chase the Terriers’ netminder out of the game with six saves to his name. Brian Tudrick won a face-off in the left circle of the BU end and slid the puck to Reschny at the bottom of the circle. NU almost had four scores in the second, but Fields’ replacement Stephan Siwiec stoned freshman Ray Ortiz on a breakaway with nine minutes remaining in the period. The Terriers outshot the Huskies, 14-10, over the second 20 minutes and both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play. BU’s Jekabs Redlihs knotted the game at 3 with 15:25 left in the third. He collected at pass from Brian McConnell in the right circle and unleashed a shot over Gibson’s right shoulder. The Huskies had power-play opportunity with 2:29 left in regulation, but couldn’t convert. NU outshot BU in the third, 7-6. From the opening face-off the Huskies were determined to take the play to the Terriers. NU controlled play from the onset and kept the puck in the BU zone for the first 10 minutes of action. The Huskies didn’t allow the Terriers a shot on goal until the 7:54 had elapsed in the first stanza and held a 5-0 shot advantage until that point. However, BU was awarded three straight power plays midway through the first period and managed to gain some momentum. The Husky penalty-kill unit kept the Terriers off the board, but 32 seconds after the third penalty was over, BU’s David Van derGulik was the benefactor of a failed NU clearing attempt and clanged a wrister off the left pipe into the net at 15:41 from 15 feet out. Gibson was screened behind a scrum of players. The Terriers held an 8-6 shot advantage and 1-0 edge on the scoreboard after the first period. NU went 0-for-2 on the power play and killed all four of BU’s man-advantages.
