| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Boston College 5, Northeastern 3
The Huskies got goals from three different players but fell to Boston College, 5-3, in a back-and-forth game on Saturday night at Conte Forum. After BC took a 2-1 lead in the second period, NU came back to tie it and 2-2 and later at 3-3 before BC scored twice in the final four minutes of the game. Yale Lewis, Brian Swiniarski and Joe Santilli scored for Northeastern. "It was a terrific college hockey game," said Northeastern head coach Greg Cronin. "It was up and down, it was exciting to coach, it was exciting for the guys playing. The difference was two plays late in the game that BC was talented enough to execute ... I really thought it was going to be a tie game or go into overtime." Northeastern fell to 1-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in Hockey East with the loss and Boston College improved to 5-3-1 and 4-1-1. "We're in every game," Cronin added. "Tonight for 60 minutes we played with an identity with two isolated mistakes." The Huskies scored first for the third game in a row when Lewis netted his first goal of the season on a power play at 7:44 in the first period. Jimmy Russo took the puck up the ice and dished it to Joe Vitale, who shot it on goal. Lewis hit the rebound past BC goalie Cory Schneider. The Eagles tied the game at 15:31 in the first when Brian Boyle tipped a Brian O'Hanley shot over NU goalie Adam Geragosian's pad from the right circle on a power play. Geragosian made nine saves on 10 shots in the period. BC took a 2-1 lead at 5:46 in the second period when Chris Collins stole the puck on a Husky power play, took it down the ice and beat Geragosian for a short-handed score. The Huskies came back to equal it half way through the second period on a power play. Schneider saved a Swiniarski shot and the puck went from Vitale to Steve Birnstill. Birnstill got the puck back to the crease and Swiniarski hit it in at 10:08. It was Swiniarski's second goal of the season and the eighth power play goal of his career. The Huskies had some great scoring opportunities in the third period with BC's Mike Brennan in the penalty box from 5:40 to 7:40. The Huskies got great shots from Matti Uusivirta, Dennis McCauley and Rob Rassey on the power play but came up empty. NU's Lewis was called for cross checking at 8:20 in the third and BC used its advantage to take the lead. Boyle buried his second goal of the game with assists from Stephen Gionta and Collins at 9:15 to make it 3-2 in favor of the Eagles. The Huskies weren't done as they evened the game at 3-3 on a power play at 11:20 in the third period. Dennis McCauley passed the puck from the right corner to Santilli behind the net. Santilli shot the puck from the left circle and Schneider made the save. Now at the top of the crease, McCauley got it back to Santilli and he lifted it over Schneider for the score. "There was a great energy on the bench after we tied it at 3-3," said Cronin. BC got the game-winner at 16:11 in the third period when Collins made a great move to get through the Husky defense and score his second goal of the game. The Eagles got an insurance goal from Brock Bradford at 18:48. Northeastern went 3-for-8 on power plays and let up Collins' short hander while Boston College went 2-for-9 on power plays in the game. The Huskies were whistled for 12 penalties for 24 minutes and BC got 10 for 20. Geragosian and Schneider made 28 saves each. Northeastern has seven days off before their next game as they travel to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Whittemore Center. The game will be televised on NHPTV and broadcast on ESPN Radio. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
