| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Northeastern 4, Merrimack 4 (OT)
Husky freshman Rob Rassey scored with 41 seconds left in regulation to give Northeastern a 4-4 tie with Merrimack on Friday at Matthews Arena. The Huskies came back from deficits of 2-0, 3-1 and 4-3 to earn their fifth Hockey East point of the season. "It's a sign that we've got some resiliance," said Husky head coach Greg Cronin after the game. "In previous games we've tended to sink when the other got the lead and tonight we came back twice." With the tie, Northeastern is 1-8-3 overall and 1-5-3 while Merrimack is 4-7-1 and 1-5-1. The teams rematch at Merrimack's Volpe Center on Saturday at 7 p.m. With the Huskies trailing, 4-3, and the Huskies on a power play in the final minute of the third period, Cronin pulled NU goalie Adam Geragosian and Brian Swiniarski took the ice. Steve Birnstill took a hard shot from the point that Merrimack goalie Jim Healey saved. The puck went off Swiniarski straight to Rassey on the left side of the crease and Rassey potted the game-tying goal. "I was in the right place at the right time," said Rassey. "It was a good shot from the point and I got the rebound." Merrimack struck with the first two goals of the game from Mike Fournier at 12:17 in the first and Mike Alexiou at 4:16 in the second period. Senior captain Chuck Tomes got the Huskies back in the game with his first goal of the season at 10:03 in the second period. Steve Sanders got the puck on a pass from Dennis McCauley and took a hard shot that Healey saved. Tomes got the rebound and lifted it over Healey's glove-side. With nine seconds remaining in the second period, Sanders took a penalty for roughing. Alexiou won the ensuing faceoff and sent a shot on goal that Geragosian saved. Brock Wilson picked up the rebound and gave Merrimack a 3-1 lead at 19:55 in the third period. The Huskies were playing comeback heading into the third period and got a pair of goals to tie it at 3-3. Yale Lewis scored from the right side of the crease with assists from Jimmy Russo and Ryan Ginand at 5:04. The Huskies kept their momentum and capitalized once again at 9:23 when Joe Santilli notched his second goal of the season to make it 3-3. Jimmy Russo took a hard shot that appeared to go in, but the ref signalled that it didn't cross the goal line. Santilli swept in from the left side and put the goal in the net. Merrimack didn't quit, however, as Hank Carisio scored a power-play goal on a cross-ice pass from Bryan Schmidt to give the Warriors the 4-3 lead at 14:21 in the third. That set up the Huskies' late rally to tie it on Rassey's goal. The Huskies couldn't capitalize on a power play in overtime when Matt Byrnes was called for obstruction-interference 2:32 into the extra frame. NU got two shots on goal while Merrimack got one in overtime. Geragosian made 22 saves in the game while Healey stopped 27 shots. The Huskies went 2-for-9 on power-play opportunities and Merrimack went 3-for-6. Northeastern and Merrimack faceoff on Saturday night at the Volpe Center in Andover, Mass. to complete the home-and-home series. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio Boston, 890 and 1400 AM, with Rob Rudnick and Bill Doherty. Hockey Game Box Score (Final)
