| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Cornell 3, Northeastern 0
The Huskies took a 3-0 loss to Cornell in the first round of the Florida College Classic on Tuesday at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. Goalie Adam Geragosian made 15 saves in the game while three different Cornell players scored. Northeastern fell to 1-10-4 and remained 1-6-4 in Hockey East while Cornell improved to 9-3-1 and stayed 5-2-1 in ECAC play. Northeastern will play either Maine or Minnesota-Duluth in the consolation game on Wednesday at 4:05 p.m. depending on the outcome of those two teams' game at 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday. Down, 3-0, entering the third period, NU came out full force. The Huskies had a power play for the first 1:35 of the frame but didn't capitalize. NU's best scoring opportunity of the game came at 6:25 in the third when Jimmy Russo took the puck down the ice, took a slash from Cornell's Topher Scott, but still got the shot off and hit the crossbar. Bryan Esner created two scoring opportunities late in the third. At 12:40 he got the puck and skated around a defenseman who had lost his stick and got a shot off right in front, but Cornell goalie David McKee made the save. Matti Uusivirta picked up the rebound and shot it but McKee saved that as well. Minutes later, Esner created another opportunity and tried to pass it to Joe Vitale but a Cornell defenseman broke up the play. Jacques Perreault took a five-minute major for hitting from behind and a game-misconduct 16:51 in the third and Cornell played the remainder of the game with a power play. Cornell took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Matt Moulson and Daniel Pegoraro. With Russo in the penalty box for hooking, Moulson shot the puck from the point on the right side across the ice for a power-play goal at 11:31. Pegoraro made it 2-0 in favor of Cornell when he took a cross-ice pass from Cam Abbot on an odd-man rush and beat Geragosian on his stick-side. Geragosian made a pair of great saves on two Mark McCutcheon shots in the 14th minute. McCutcheon shot one on Geragosian in front of the net, then got the rebound back and shot it from the corner of the crease but Geragosian saved both. Northeastern was credited for just one shot on goal in the first period, which came off the stick of Yale Lewis. The Huskies outshot Cornell, 8-4, in the second period but came up scoreless as Cornell added a goal to its lead. Northeastern had a 5-on-3 power play for 1:22 when Cornell's Jared Seminoff and Michael Kennedy were both sent off the ice for hooking. NU generated some great opportunities, including close shots by Vitale, Russo and Rob Rassey, but none found the net. Cornell scored 3:54 into the frame when Topher Scott tipped in a Doug Krantz shot right after a faceoff in the Husky zone. Cornell was called for seven penalties in the period while Northeastern was called for just one. Northeastern's matchup with Maine or Minnesota-Duluth on Wednesday will be carried on live web video by B2 Networks and will be broadcast live at 4:05 p.m. and will be tape-delayed at 7 p.m. on ESPN Radio Boston with Mike Machnik and Ed Stoner.
