Northeastern made a fierce push in the final minute but couldn't come back from a two-goal deficit, falling to No. 5 Boston College, 4-3, at Conte Forum on Friday. Three players scored for Northeastern while goalie Doug Jewer made 27 saves.

Down 3-2 with a minute to go, NU head coach Greg Cronin pulled Jewer. BC's Chris Collins got the puck and lofted it into the empty net at 19:11 to push the Eagles' lead to two goals. With Jewer still out of the net and the Huskies surging, freshman Ryan Ginand scored with eight seconds remaining to get the Huskies within a goal. Several players hit the puck around in front of the net and Joe Santilli and Jason Blain got assists on the play at 19:52.

NU lined up for the final faceoff with no goalie and Brian Swiniarski won the draw, pushing it forward to Jason Blain. With chaos on the ice, Rob Rassey ended up with the puck on the left side of the net and shot it just wide in the final second of play as the score ended up 4-3 in favor of BC.

The Huskies fell to 1-12-4 overall and 1-8-4 in Hockey East with the loss while Boston College improved to 11-4-2 and 9-2-1.

The Huskies got out to a 1-0 lead after the first period on Steve Birnstill's first goal of the season. With BC's Mike Brennan in the penalty box for obstruction-interference, the Huskies effectively cycled the puck down low on the left side and back to the point to Jimmy Russo. Russo dished it to Birnstill, who shot it from the point, through traffic and past BC goalie Joe Pearce for the score at 12:45.

Russo hit the post twice in the first period but didn't find the net. He also made a great steal in the BC zone on an Eagle power play and got the shot off, but hit the side of the net. Jewer made some great saves in the first period, including a pair of excellent saves at the start of a BC power play at 7:00.

BC got on the board to even it at 1-1 early in the second period. Benn Ferriero got the puck from Andrew Orpik at the blueline, skated in and beat Jewer at 1:11. BC took a 2-1 lead at 7:35 when Peter Harrold scored a power play goal from the right side of the crease. The goal came just as a BC 5-on-3 advantage ended.

Northeastern tied the game at 2-2 when Matti Uusivirta scored his third goal of the season from the right circle at 5:46 in the third period. He got assists from Chuck Tomes and Bryan Esner. Ferriero scored his second goal of the game at 14:49 in the third period to give the lead back to the Eagles entering the final minutes of play.

Northeastern is back on the ice on Saturday night when the Huskies host Boston University in the teams' first meeting of the season. The game will be aired live on Comcast CN8 at 7 p.m. and ESPN Radio Boston will pick up the game in progress at 8 p.m.
