Northeastern took a 4-0 loss to Boston University on Friday at Matthews Arena. Four different players scored for BU while goalie John Curry made 28 saves for the shutout. Northeastern goalie Doug Jewer stopped all 11 shots he faced in relief of Adam Geragosian, who stopped seven of 10 shots.
"We had a bunch of chances. We had some two-on-ones and some bunches in front of the net but we couldn't score," said NU head coach Greg Cronin.
The Huskies fell to 1-13-4 on the season with a 1-8-4 Hockey East mark while Boston University improved to 8-8-2 and 6-6-1.
BU took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Peter MacArthur and John Laliberte. MacArthur scored with assists from Kenny Roche and Dan Spang at 4:39 to get the Terriers on the board. Laliberte made the score 2-0 at 18:16 in the first with helpers from Brad Zancanaro and Spang.
The Huskies had some excellent scoring chances at the start of the second. At 1:30 in the second, Jimmy Russo got a hard shot off got a solid shot off in front of the net but Curry saved it. Defenseman Louis Liotti picked up the rebound and shot it into a BU defender in front of the crease.
Jason Lawrence made it 3-0 in favor of BU at 6:31 in the second with assist from Brandon Yp and Chris Higgins. Cronin then pulled Geragosian and put in Jewer.
The Huskies pressed hard in the third period but still couldn't get on the board. Cronin pulled Jewer with two minutes to go, but that resulted in an empty netter from BU's Zancanaro.
Northeastern tied its season-low for penalties in the game, with six penalties for 12 minutes. NU had the same penalty total against Providence College on Nov. 15.
The Huskies will try to get on the winning track next weekend as they play a pair of games against Vermont on Friday and Saturday in Burlington, Vt. Both games will be carried live on ESPN Radio Boston, 890 and 1400 AM.
