| 2005-06 Schedule/Results Providence 2, Northeastern 1
Northeastern took a 2-1 loss to Providence College as the Huskies got 37 saves from goaltender Adam Geragosian on Friday night at Schneider Arena. The Huskies got a goal from Dennis McCauley for the second night in a row. NU split the home-and-home series with PC after beating the Friars, 2-1, at Matthews Arena on Thursday. "I thought Geragosian was outstanding again," said Northeastern head coach Greg Cronin. "He kept us in the game, individually, and we didn't do anything as a team to support him and win the game." Providence got out to a 1-0 lead after the first period despite excellent play from Geragosian. Cody Wild got the Friars on the board at 6:26 on a power play when a rebound came loose in front and Wild shot it home on Geragosian's stick-side. James Pemberton and Colin McDonald got assists on the play. Geragosian made several great saves in the period, including five stops to hold Providence scoreless on a Providence 5-on-3 power play that lasted for 1:50. At the end of the power play, Torry Gajda got a great look but broke his stick on the shot and it hit the post. Earlier in the period, Gajda made a great wraparound move and Geragosian made a pair of great saves on the play. PC outshot NU, 18-5, in the frame. The Huskies got on the board in the second period but not until after the Friars scored their second goal of the game. PC made it 2-0 when Kyle Laughlin scored with assists from McDonald and Tony Zancanaro at 1:27 in the second period. The Huskies got the Friars' lead down to a goal when McCauley netted his second goal in as many games at 7:30 in the second. Chuck Tomes shot the puck high from the point and McCauley knocked it down but couldn't control it. Josh Robertson got the puck, took it behind the net and fed McCauley in front and McCauley beat Providence goalie Tyler Sims for his sixth goal of the season. The Huskies put the pressure on to tie it in the third period but couldn't find the net. NU went 0-for-2 on power plays in the third and 1-for-5 overall. NU pulled Geragosian for the final 29 seconds of the game but didn't generate any offense. "We couldn't generate anything on those power plays in the third," said Cronin. "Give credit to Providence's penalty kill, but we've got to use those chances." McCauley has three goals and three assists in his last five games while Robertson has a 1-8-9 scoring line in his last eight games. Tomes' assist was his second in two nights. In his last five games, Geragosian has a 2.84 goals against average and a .920 save-percentage. Northeastern takes on Massachusetts in a crucial home-and-home series next weekend. The Huskies host the Minutemen on Friday before traveling to the Mullins Center on Saturday. Both games begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN Radio Boston, 890 and 1400 AM.
