Northeastern came back with a goal from Dennis McCauley to tie Massachusetts, 2-2, on Friday at Matthews Arena. Joe Santilli also scored for the Huskies and goalie Adam Geragosian made 28 saves. The Huskies have to win their remaining three games to get into the Hockey East playoffs.

With Massachusetts leading, 2-1, McCauley scored his third goal in as many games to tie it up at 12:29 in the third period. Denis Chisholm started the play when he passed the puck to Yale Lewis, who took the puck down the ice and fired it on UMass goalie Gabe Winer. Winer made the save and the rebound was batted around in front of the net and went to McCauley, who buried it for his seventh goal of the season. Josh Robertson also got an assist on the play.

Massachusetts had taken the lead earlier in the period on a P.J. Fenton goal at 7:14 in the third. Fenton scored on the rebound of a Chris Davis shot after Davis got a feed from Mike Kostka.

In overtime, the Huskies outshot the Minutemen, 5-3, and pressured the net in the closing seconds but couldn't get the game-winner. Geragosian came up with a huge save on a Davis breakaway after he stole the puck in his own defensive zone. Rob Rassey had the best scoring chance for the Huskies in overtime when he got the puck from Ray Ortiz and shot it on Winer, but the goalie came up with the stop.

Massachusetts got the first goal of the game from Mark Matheson at 8:37 in the first period. He got assists from Chris Capraro and Marvin Degon.

The Huskies evened it before the period was over on Santilli's fourth goal of the season at 12:56 in the first. Santilli got assists from Joe Vitale and Bryan Esner on the score.

Northeastern tied its single-season record for ties as the Huskies are 3-21-7 overall and 3-14-7 in Hockey East. Northeastern also had seven ties in 2003-04. It was UMass' first tie of the season as the Minutemen are 12-18-1 overall and 9-14-1 in league play.

The Huskies now have to win each of their three remaining games to get into the Hockey East playoffs. The Huskies can get into the playoffs if they win their final three games and Massachusetts loses its final three games, or if Northeastern wins its final three games and UMass Lowell loses its final three games. If the Huskies and Minutemen each finish with 18 points in Hockey East, NU would hold the tiebreaker by winning the season-series with the Minutemen. To overtake UMass Lowell for the playoffs, Northeastern has to finish with 18 points to UML's 17, because the season-series is tied a 1-1-1 but UML holds the tiebreaker with more league wins.

Northeastern continues its pursuit on Saturday when the Huskies take on Massachusetts at the Mullins Center in Amherst at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio Boston, 890 and 1400 AM.
