Goalie Adam Geragosian tied his career high with 38 saves but the Huskies couldn't get on the board as they fell to No. 12 New Hampshire, 3-0, at the Whittemore Center on Saturday in Durham, N.H. Three different New Hampshire players scored and goalie Kevin Regan earned his first career shutout as UNH swept the home-and-home series.

"I thought after two periods it was a pretty balanced game and we played pretty well," said Northeastern head coach Greg Cronin. "Both teams looked pretty sluggish and the ice was soft."

Northeastern fell to 0-6-1 overall and 0-3-1 in Hockey East with the loss, while New Hampshire moved up to 4-3-1 and 3-1-0.

Cronin said, "I'm a head strong person and I'm told that the transition [between coaching staffs] takes longer than you want. I wanted five games in eight days so I could see who can play. Our 0-6-1 record obviously wasn't the start I wanted getting back to college hockey, but there's only one way to go. My biggest challenge is getting the players to believe in themselves."

With the Huskies trailing 3-0 in the third period, New Hampshire's Brad Flaishans got a five-minute major for head butting and a game misconduct at 12:45 after a hit on NU's Brian Swiniarski. The Huskies got nice shots from Jimmy Russo and Steve McClellan that Regan saved, but didn't score before Dennis McCauley was called for tripping at 15:05.

New Hampshire's Josh Ciocco got two minutes for slashing at 16:09 and Cronin called a timeout to prepare for NU's 4-on-3 power play. Shortly into the power play, Joe Vitale got a great shot off from the corner of the crease but Regan made the save. Ryan Ginand shot the rebound, but Regan made another save. Northeastern got a 5-on-3 power play for 40 seconds but couldn't score.

New Hampshire jumped out to a quick lead for the second night in a row when a wide open Craig Switzer shot the puck behind Geragosian 48 seconds into the game. Switzer took a cross-ice feed from Jacob Micflikier for the score. Geragosian fended off several odd-man rush opportunities from the Wildcats in the first period.

Northeastern created some scoring opportunities in the first but couldn't get the puck in the net. At 13:40, Vitale made a perfect pass from behind the net to Matti Uusivirta in the left circle, but Uusivirta's shot was stopped by UNH goalie Kevin Regan. On NU's one penalty kill, the Huskies nearly got a shorthanded goal when Jimmy Russo took the puck into the UNH zone and passed it to Bryan Esner, but Regan saved Esner's shot.

New Hampshire got a 5-on-3 power play at 6:45 in the second period when Steve McClellan was called for contact to the head/high sticking with Louis Liotti already in the box for two minutes for hitting from behind. New Hampshire wasted no time as Micflikier put the puck in the net just five seconds into the power play at 6:50.

Northeastern got its own power-play opportunity at 11:40 in the second when Daniel Winnik was called for tripping, but it lasted just 15 seconds as Joe Vitale was called for hooking. New Hampshire nearly got a score in their 15-second power play when Thomas Fortney shot the puck from the point and knocked Geragosian's water bottle off the top of the net.

The Huskies tried to create some scoring chances in the final minutes of the second period. New Hampshire iced the puck with 15 seconds left in the frame, giving the Huskies a faceoff in the UNH zone. Vitale won the faceoff and got the puck to Ginand, who shot it on net but Regan made the save. Several Northeastern and New Hampshire players ended up in a pile in the crease that resulted in matching roughing penalties for Northeastern's Louis Liotti and UNH's Michael Hutchins at 19:51.

At 7:22 in the third, NU's Vitale was called for hooking and UNH's Micflikier was whistled for diving, creating a 4-on-4 situation. New Hampshire took advantage in the Husky zone as UNH's Mike Radja scored his first goal of the season at 8:02 to give New Hampshire a 3-0 lead.

Northeastern was called for a season-low nine penalties for 18 minutes while New Hampshire was whistled for nine penalties for 29 minutes. The Huskies went 0-for-6 on power plays while UNH went 1-for-5.

Northeastern is back in action when it takes on Massachusetts on Friday at Matthews Arena. The Minutemen will be NU's second unranked opponent through eight games this season.
