| 2006-07 Schedule/Results Northeastern 7, Holy Cross 2
Seven different players scored as the Huskies upended Holy Cross, 7-2, in the consolation game of the Toyota UConn Hockey Classic on Saturday at Freitas Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn. Down, 2-1, early in the third period, the Huskies went off for six straight goals to put the game away. Joe Santilli had a goal and two assists and Ryan Ginand, Kyle Kraemer and Dennis McCauley each had a goal and an assist. Down 2-1 early in the third period, Ginand scored on a breakaway at 4:48 in the third. Sophomore Jacques Perreault started the play when he backhanded the puck around the boards and Santilli kicked it out to Ginand, who took it in for the score to make it 2-2. It was Perreault's first career assist. Just 11 seconds later, Joe Vitale scored what proved to be the game-winner. Vitale scored on a back-hander with assists from Santilli and Andrew Linard at 4:59. Kraemer scored at 6:18 to make it 4-2. Chris Donovan intercepted a pass in the Holy Cross zone and passed it over to Kraemer. Santilli scored on a power play at 13:50 to make it 5-2. Steve Birnstill took a shot from the point that Holy Cross netminder Charlie Lockwood saved and Ginand hacked at it in front of the net. The puck went back to Santilli, who shot it in for his first goal of the season. Holy Cross pulled Lockwood with two minutes left in the game and the Huskies took advantage when Jimmy Russo scored an empty-net goal at 18:25. Jim Driscoll scored the first goal of his career at 19:44 on a wrister from the blueline that went over a sprawling Lockwood. McCauley and Kraemer had assists on the play. Holy Cross got on the board first with a short-handed goal from Tanner Fogarty in the first period. Fogarty got the puck near the Holy Cross blueline and sped past a Husky defenseman for a breakaway, beating Geragosian to make it 1-0 at 12:18 in the first. The Huskies came back to tie it at 1-1 when McCauley buried the rebound of a Louis Liotti shot at 13:20 in the first. Freshman Greg Costa passed the puck to Liotti at the point. Liotti shot the puck into traffic and McCauley was in front to clean up. Costa's assist was his first collegiate point in his second game of the season. The Huskies had some good scoring opportunities in the second period, including a short-handed breakaway by Donovan at 11:15 that Lockwood made a great save on. Santilli hit the post on a power play shot with just over two minutes left in the second. With Birnstill in the penalty box to start the third period, Holy Cross took advantage and took a 2-1 lead 15 seconds into the frame. The Huskies won the opening faceoff but lost control of the puck in the defensive zone. Holy Cross defenseman Jon Landry took a shot from the right point that Northeastern goalie Adam Geragosian saved and James Sixsmith buried the rebound. The rest of the period belonged to the Huskies. Geragosian improved to 2-1-0 on the season with 15 saves while Lockwood made 25. The Huskies improved to 5-10-2 overall on the season while Holy Cross dropped to 7-10-2. Northeastern gets back to its league schedule next weekend when it takes on Boston College on Friday at Matthews Arena and Boston University on Saturday at Agganis Arena. Both games begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on 890 ESPN Boston. Friday's game will also be broadcast on WRBB 104.9 FM. Northeastern (5-10-2, 2-8-2) vs. Holy Cross (7-10-2, 6-7-2)
