| 2006-07 Schedule/Results UMass Lowell 1, Northeastern 0
Huskies goalie Brad Thiessen made 26 saves on 27 shots but Northeastern couldn't get on the board against UMass Lowell goalie Nevin Hamilton as the Huskies lost, 1-0, on Thursday at Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Mass. It was the sixth time this season Thiessen allowed a goal or less. UMass Lowell's Cleve Kinley scored the game-winner at 1:16 in the third period. Northeastern fell to 10-14-4 overall and 7-11-4 in Hockey East while UMass Lowell improved to 5-19-6 and 4-14-3 in the league. Thiessen was solid in the first period, making seven saves. He made two great saves in the span of a minute. The first came on Chris Auger shot from the front after the River Hawks completed a series of passes to get it to an open Auger. He then made a good stop when Kory Falite got the puck in front and tried to lift it in at 13:19. Bryan Esner had a good scoring chance on a setup from Chad Costello but he shot it just over the crossbar at 11:00. Northeastern had power play opportunities at 13:26 and 17:55 in the first, but the UMass Lowell penalty kill was excellent and the Huskies couldn't set anything up. Chris Donovan had a great scoring chance in the 17th minute of the second period. Greg Costa was fresh out of the penalty box and took the puck into the UMass Lowell zone. He was tied up by two UML defensemen but got a pass to Donovan in front, but UMass Lowell goalie Nevin Hamilton made the save on Donovan's shot. After a faceoff in the UMass Lowell zone in the final minute of the second period, the Huskies had two good scoring chances on shots by Joe Vitale and Kyle Kraemer. Kinley scored the one and only goal of the game at 1:16 in the third period. Kinley got the puck from Chris Auger and took a shot that Vitale blocked. The puck went back to Kinley and he shot a knuckle puck that arched high and over Thiessen's shoulder. Dennis McCauley had the Huskies' best scoring chances in the third period. One came on a setup from Costello, but McCauley's shot went wide of the net, and another was a hard shot saved by Hamilton. Thiessen made a great kick-save on a Mike Potacco shot to keep the score at 1-0 with three minutes left in the game. The Huskies pulled Thiessen at 18:33 in the third. NU's best chance with the extra attacker was when Vitale got a shot off down low on a feed from Costello but Hamilton made the save. Northeastern is back a the TD Banknorth Garden on Monday as the Huskies play Harvard in the consolation game of the Beanpot Tournament at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 890 ESPN Boston and WRBB Radio, 104.9 FM.
