| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Merrimack 4, Northeastern 2
Northeastern took a two-goal lead on scores by Tyler McNeely and Ryan Ginand but Merrimack came back and won the game, 4-2, on Friday night at Lawler Arena. The teams complete the weekend series on Saturday night at Matthews Arena at 6 p.m. The loss snapped an 11-game, 9-0-2 unbeaten streak that was the second-longest in school history for the Huskies. The loss put Northeastern's record at 10-5-2 overall and 7-4-1 in Hockey East while Merrimack improved to 7-9-2 overall and 4-9-1 in Hockey East. McNeely's seventh goal of the season got Northeastern on the board at 10:49 in the first period. An errant Merrimack pass went off Joe Vitale's stick to Wade MacLeod, who passed it to McNeely in the neutral zone. McNeely skated ahead all alone to the top of the left circle and fired a slapshot into the top right corner of the net to make it 1-0 Huskies. A similar opportunity came for McNeely toward the end of the first period when MacLeod poked the puck ahead to him. McNeely passed it ahead to himself and got through three defenders to get a shot off, but it sailed high. McNeely took a hard hit from Merrimack defenseman Joe Loprieno after the play, which resulted in a five-minute major for boarding on Loprieno. McNeely didn't miss a shift. The Huskies made it 2-0 on Ginand's goal in the second period. Just after Loprieno's penalty ended, Denis Chisholm took a hard shot from the point that went wide into the boards. Steve Silva picked it up on the side of the net and sent it to Ginand at the top of the crease and Ginand put it in at 2:27. Merrimack got on the board on a great play by J.C. Robitaille. He picked off an errant pass in the Northeastern zone, took it down the right side and shot it in, beating Thiessen at 13:11 in the second period to make it 2-1. Merrimack evened the score at 7:09 in the third period when defenseman Fraser Allan scored from in front. Silva had just come out of the penalty box at 7:01 after a penalty for roughing. The Warriors took the lead on Robitaille's second goal of the night. Pat Kimball passed the puck ahead to Robitaille, who got through for a breakaway and beat Thiessen to make it 3-2 at 13:52 in the third. Merrimack's Pat Bowen added another goal just 41 seconds later to make it 4-2 at 14:33. Northeastern pulled Thiessen after each team called a timeout with 50.1 seconds remaining in the game. The Huskies managed a few shots in the final minute but couldn't score. Northeastern and Merrimack each had 30 shots in the game and went scoreless on power plays. The teams rematch on Saturday at Matthews Arena at 6 p.m. The game was moved to 6 p.m. to accommodate fans who want to watch the Huskies and the Patriots game, which starts at 8 p.m. The Northeastern game will be broadcast on 890 ESPN Boston and WRBB Radio and will have live web video on GoNU.TV.
