| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern 3, Boston College 2 (OT)
Wade MacLeod scored two goals, including the overtime game-winner, as Northeastern University topped Boston College, 3-2, in OT on Friday night at Conte Forum. Greg Costa also scored for Northeastern and goalie Brad Thiessen made 25 saves. With the win, the Huskies are still in the hunt for the No. 4 seed and home ice with for the first round of the Hockey East playoffs. Boston University beat Providence, 2-0, and Maine topped UMass Lowell, 4-1, putting Northeastern one point behind BC and Providence in the Hockey East standings with one day left in the regular season. If Northeastern beats BC on Saturday, the Huskies earn home ice. If it's a tie or a BC win, the Eagles earn home ice. Northeastern improved to 15-15-3 overall and 12-12-2 in Hockey East with the win while Boston College is 16-11-8 overall and 10-9-7 in Hockey East with the loss. On the winning play, Jim Driscoll shot the puck into the BC zone along the left boards. It went all the way around to Louis Liotti on the right boards. Liotti shot it on net and Chris Donovan shot the rebound on net. The rebound of Donovan's shot went to MacLeod on the right side and MacLeod put it behind BC goalie John Muse for the Huskies victory at 3:56 in overtime. With the score tied at 1-1, Northeastern took the lead with MacLeod's first goal at 6:44 in the third period. BC took the puck through the neutral zone when Donovan broke up the play. Joe Vitale grabbed the puck and passed it back to MacLeod, who was all alone, skated into the left circle and took a slapshot. The puck went off Muse and trickled in to make it 2-1 Northeastern. BC tied it up at 15:02 in the third to force overtime. Mike Brennan fired a huge slapshot from the right circle that found the top right corner of the net. Matt Price and Pat Gannon got assists on the play. Boston College got on the board right after the opening faceoff when Price skated between the NU defense to get open in front, then shot the puck past Thiessen just 11 seconds into the game. Dan Bertram and Gannon also got assists on the play. Ryan Ginand stood out in the first period for the Huskies, getting several shots off, including a couple in front of the net. Both teams took three penalties in the first but the score remained 1-0 going into the intermission. Thiessen made a great play late in the period to stop a BC opportunity. The Eagles nearly had a two-on-none when Thiessen came out to the top of the right circle to knock the puck away. The Huskies tied it up with Costa's goal at 16:16 in the second period. David Strathman took a shot that went off Steve Silva and into the corner. Drew Muench got the puck on the left boards and shot it on goal. Muse made the save and the rebound went to Costa, who was open on the right and shot it in. It was Costa's fourth goal of the season. MacLeod's goals were his 10th and 11th of the season and Vitale picked up his 23rd assist and 35th point of the season. Vitale is in the chase for the Hockey East scoring title with one game left on the schedule. Northeastern and Boston College rematch at Matthews Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game has great significance in the Hockey East playoff picture.
