John Carratu

John Carratu joins the Northeastern hockey program as the team’s volunteer assistant coach for the 2008-09 season, giving the Huskies an experienced goaltending teacher on staff. Carratu is co-director of the Woburn-based Stop It Goaltending, a goalie program that services all levels of the game. Carratu is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the business as well as on- and off-ice instruction along with Brian Daccord.

Carratu previously served as co-director and instructor at Superskills Hockey in Tewksbury, Mass., where he created an on-ice curriculum for goaltending instruction. He led the Superskills Goaltending Summer Camp, coaching over 300 players ranging from mites to the National Hockey League. Carratu also co-directed the Merrimack Valley Cup, a regional All-Star tournament.

Carratu has worked extensively as a freelance goaltending consultant and has worked as an instructor at the Joe Bertagna Goalie Schools and Paul Vincent’s Dynamic Skating. He also owned and operated First Line Hockey, a retail hockey store specializing in goalie equipment.

Carratu has served as a goaltending consultant to numerous teams and organizations, including Cushing Academy, Noble & Greenough and Phillips Andover Academy. Carratu is a 1992 graduate of Salem State College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Social Studies. He has also completed work on a master’s degree in Special Education.

Carratu resides in Beverly.
